BongoHive partners with Microsoft and GitHub

We would like to announce two great partnerships for our local tech community.

Microsoft

BongoHive has partnered with Microsoft Corporation through a continent-wide collaboration with AfriLabs, the African Tech Hub network.

The Partnership between AfriLabs Network and Microsoft Corporation signed in October 2013 is envisioned to establish in Africa a favorable environment to support the growth of a technology and innovation economy by enabling the startups & developers communities to access technology, skills, incubation and additional support to enable them to create and monetize innovative applications and become sustainable and competitive SMEs.

The following benefits will be available to BongoHive members:

  • BongoHive will become a BizSpark Network Partner, providing members and startups access to the BizSpark program. BizSpark offers three years of free software, support, and visibility for startups.
  • BongoHive’s technical trainers will get trainings on software development using Microsoft technologies on the platforms: Windows 8 (W8), Windows Phone 8 (WP8), Windows Azure, and in turn be able to host monthly technical training sessions.
  • Windows Phone test devices.
  • Nominated startups to get additional support: technical, sales, and marketing.

GitHub

In our quest to provide the necessary support to our members, BongoHive has also partnered with GitHub Inc in order to provide world-class collaboration tools. In this partnership, GitHub will provide 300 private Git repositories to the BongoHive community. These would normally cost USD$ 450/month in total.

GitHub_LogoGitHub is a web-based interface for collaborating on software and documentation projects. It provides version control, issue tracking, and wiki space for hosted projects. GitHub uses Git, a distributed version control system used in the Linux kernel, the Android mobile platform, and other projects.

GitHub are tools to help you manage your code better and make it easier to work in team programming projects. The Hackers Guild at BongoHive will provide training on how to use Git and GitHub.
