Hello there!

September is cruising steadily along and as always, we're keeping busy. Last week, we kicked off our Solve 4 X: SDGs and COVID-19 meetups. We have held 4 sessions so far, unpacking how to solve for 8 of 16 SDGS. The Solvers have had an array of guests featured on the panels including Stephanie Arneson (260 Brands), Eng. Dr. Charles Shindaile (GIZ Zambia), Dr. Albert Manasyan (CIDRZ), Felix Mwenge (UNHCR), Lisa Chileshe (PACT Zambia), Daniel Phiri (CIG Zambia), and Mutale Mukuka (CEC). We have 3 more sessions left before the solvers begin creating their solutions for X, which can be one or more SDGs that they have chosen to innovate on.

Phase 3 of the Boost Up challenge with SAIS also kicked off last week. Boost Up Scale Up, is a training and incubation programme for startups that are impact driven and desire to become more investable. The participating startups are those that were crowned winners during the previous phase - Boost Up Stand Up (pitching competition).

This week, we begin working with the 9 FinTechs that are part of the second cohort of our FinTech4U Accelerator Programme with UNCDF. The 9 startups in the programme are AlomoSystem, Ekamo Wallet, Moti Solutions for Africa, Onyx Connect Zambia Limited, Paykesho, Premier Credit, Progtech Zambia, Soqo Payments and Village Savers Tech Limited. If you’d like to see what we got up to in Cohort 1, check out this video.

We, together with FSDZ and Zanaco, begin the 3-month mentorship phase of the BongoHive Fintech Challenge this week. Five of the finalists were selected for a business mentorship programme with the Zanaco Innovation Hub. The selected startups were the top two finalists: Scholar Essential Xpress and Mobile Pay; and the other 3 are Open Grain, Flash Cash Africa, and InvestLinc.

We closed applications for the Discover Preaccelerator programme on Friday. Thank you to all who applied - the team will be in touch with shortlisted candidates. If you missed out on this application period, we have another programme scheduled for the end of the year.

Stay Safe.
See you next week!
