🌍 BongoHive Alumni Spotlight: Tetiwe Nzimah Elevates Kiddies Commute on the Global Stage

From Lusaka to South Carolina, BongoHive and Standard Chartered Women in Tech (WiT) alumna, Tetiwe Nzimah, continues to champion innovation, sustainability, and safety in child transportation through her company, Kiddies Commute.

Recently selected as a 2025 Sonoco Visiting Fellow at the Darla Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina, Tetiwe’s fellowship marked a milestone in Kiddies Commute’s global journey — positioning the Zambian startup as a forward-thinking player in safety, sustainability, and mobility innovation.

Through the fellowship, Kiddies Commute was featured as a live business case in the MGMT 407: CSR & Stakeholder Engagement course, where students developed practical sustainability and market expansion strategies for the company.

Beyond the classroom, Tetiwe engaged with several global leaders to explore strategic synergies, including:

  • Kitty Chaney Reed, Chief Leadership, Culture & Inclusion Officer at IBM, discussing AI integration and technology collaboration.

  • Pamela Bynoe-Reed, Board Member of COMET SC & CWAC, on adapting best practices from the U.S. public transit ecosystem.

  • Israel Hodges, Environmental Compliance Manager at Scout Motors (EV Manufacturing), on aligning Kiddies Commute’s roadmap with electric vehicle adoption.

  • Julius Scott, Community Support Services Coordinator at Lex-Richland 5 Schools, on child mobility partnerships within education systems.

Tetiwe also took the global stage as a guest speaker for the Columbia World Affairs Council webinar on “Innovating for Impact: African Entrepreneurship, Women’s Leadership, and the ESG–SDG Advantage”, and appeared on WIS TV (NBC Affiliate) to share Kiddies Commute’s impact and vision with the U.S. public.

Reflecting on her experience, Tetiwe noted that the journey underscored the importance of global collaboration and sustainability-driven innovation — values that align closely with BongoHive’s mission to nurture entrepreneurs building scalable, tech-driven solutions in Africa.

“There is strong alignment around innovation testing, ESG-driven impact, electric mobility, and digital safety models — which I believe can be jointly framed with BongoHive for high-level strategic collaboration,” she shared.

As an alumna of BongoHive’s Discover and Thrive programs and a top finalist in the Standard Chartered Women in Tech Incubator, Tetiwe continues to demonstrate how knowledge, collaboration, and purpose-driven leadership can fuel lasting impact.

Her journey is a shining example of how Zambian entrepreneurs are making global strides — driving change, fostering innovation, and setting new standards for sustainable business in Africa and beyond.
