The United Nations Development Program Zambia (UNDP), in collaboration with BongoHive, has launched the Timbuktoo MineTech StartUp Accelerator Programme, a groundbreaking initiative designed to reshape Africa’s mining sector through innovation, sustainability, and local entrepreneurship. BongoHive will lead the implementation of this pioneering programme, which seeks to empower startups utilizing cutting-edge technologies to tackle key challenges in the mining industry.

The initiative, officially opening for applications on January 13, 2025, will support startups using technologies such as AI, data visualization, and drones to create solutions that address critical issues in mining. Maumo Mubila-Kakoma, Manager of Strategic Projects and Enterprise Development at BongoHive, spoke at the groundbreaking of the Timbuktoo MineTech Hub, emphasizing the transformative potential of the programme.

“This accelerator is not just about creating a physical space; it’s about fostering groundbreaking ideas that will revolutionize Africa’s mining industry,” Mubila-Kakoma said. “It represents a unique opportunity to tap into local talent and drive socio-economic transformation through innovation.”
