BongoHive Participates in Women in Digital Gathering 2025

Advocating for a safer, more inclusive digital future for women and girls
BongoHive was honoured to take part in the Women in Digital Gathering 2025, hosted by Tech Trends and supported by UNDP. As digital tools become central to everyday life, this year’s forum highlighted a pressing issue: while technology is advancing rapidly, many women and girls continue to face online harassment, exclusion, and limited access to digital opportunities. During the #16Days of Activism Against #GBV, the gathering posed a powerful question: How do we ensure our digital future is not only innovative, but also safe and fair for women and girls?

Representing BongoHive, Maumo Mubila-Kakoma, Manager – Strategic Projects & Enterprise Development, joined the Digital Economy Roundtable, contributing insights on strengthening women’s participation in the digital economy. The discussion centred on building simple, flexible, and accessible digital financial tools that support women in managing household budgets, growing their businesses, and securing long-term financial stability.

  • Maumo highlighted several key digital skills gaps that continue to hinder women entrepreneurs, including:
  • Moving beyond digital basics to using tools that add real value to their businesses.
  • Leveraging analytics for decision-making, such as predicting inventory needs or tracking customer retention.
  • Shifting from simply posting online to developing strategic digital marketing approaches.
  • Building digital financial footprints by separating personal and business mobile money accounts.
  • Improving competencies in e-commerce, cybersecurity, and overall digital confidence.

She also shared how BongoHive is actively supporting women in the digital space, with initiatives such as:
The Standard Chartered Women in Tech programme, providing mentorship, funding, partner connections, and access to a growing global alumni network.Skills development programmes, particularly in digital marketing.
Incubation, acceleration, and investment readiness support for women-led businesses.
