Lusaka, Zambia — BongoHive, in partnership with First Capital Bank, recently hosted the First Capital Bank Pitch Day, bringing together some of Zambia’s most promising fintech innovators to present solutions aimed at strengthening the country’s financial ecosystem.
The event featured the First Capital Bank Fintech Finalists, who pitched their solutions for potential equity investment ranging from $20,000 to $50,000, alongside the opportunity to explore strategic partnerships with the bank. The initiative is designed not only to provide funding, but also to create pathways for collaboration between emerging startups and an established financial institution, helping innovators scale solutions that support inclusive finance and digital transformation.
Throughout the event, the finalists presented ideas spanning digital payments, financial access, data-driven financial services, and platforms designed to support individuals and businesses navigating the financial system. Each founder demonstrated a strong commitment to leveraging technology to address real-world financial challenges and expand access to financial services.
A distinguished panel of judges evaluated the pitches, bringing together senior leadership from both the banking and innovation ecosystems. The panel included Simunza Muyangana, Co-founder and Director of Entrepreneurship at BongoHive, alongside First Capital Bank executives Shaun Anadkat, Group Head of Strategy; Bhavya Shah, Group Head of Retail and Products; Edward Molenaars, Group Head of Transformation; Kennedy Bwalya, Head of Operations – Zambia; Gezile Kasonde, Head of Branches and Distribution – Zambia; and Andre Potgieter, CEO – Zambia.
The presence of such a high-level judging panel underscored the significance of the initiative and the growing role of collaboration between financial institutions and the startup ecosystem in driving innovation.
