The Man Bringing Order to Africa’s Machinery Chaos

When Arthur Abaliwano looked at Africa’s construction and mining landscape, he saw a silent crisis slowing down the continent’s progress: contractors losing days—and money—simply trying to locate the heavy equipment they needed to keep projects moving. “The difficulty in sourcing equipment on time has led to losses for contractors due to project delays,” he recalls. That pain point became the spark behind Anchor Machines, his bold solution to one of the industry’s most entrenched operational challenges.

Today, Anchor Machines is redefining equipment rental with a frictionless, three-click hiring system that cuts sourcing time from three to four days to under 24 hours. By enabling contractors to find machinery closest to their sites—and saving up to 50 percent on time and transport costs—Arthur is pushing the sector toward a new era of efficiency. But he is also tackling a deeper structural issue: information asymmetry. “Africa’s equipment rental space is fragmented because there’s no transparent information about availability,” he explains. “With Anchor Machines, contractors can finally see what exists, where it is, and access it instantly.”

Beyond convenience, Arthur is unlocking growth. With embedded financing built into the platform, contractors and machine owners who previously lacked working capital can now take on bigger or multiple projects. “Eighty percent of players in this industry cannot handle big projects without financing,” he notes. “This support gives them the capacity to grow.”

Arthur’s selection as one of the Top Five innovators in the MineTech Programme—chosen from more than 350 applicants across Africa—**was a defining milestone. “It enhanced our brand visibility and credibility,” he says. “We’ve built more connections, more partnerships, and more confidence in the work we’re doing.” The MineTech experience also sharpened his strategy. One-on-one advisory sessions helped refine operations and strengthen customer delivery, while networking with other founders, professionals, and investors accelerated Anchor Machines’ learning curve. “The insights we gained have greatly improved how we run and grow the business,” he reflects.

Anchor Machines’ momentum continues to build. The team has expanded its customer base through targeted marketing, deepened industry partnerships, and strengthened customer relationships. Each milestone reinforces Arthur’s belief that his company is solving a continental problem at the right moment.

His vision stretches far beyond Uganda. “One of the biggest challenges in mining across Africa is the inaccessibility of heavy equipment,” he says. “We want to scale Anchor Machines across the continent so companies can source and hire equipment with ease. If we can improve productivity, we can improve profitability—and transform operations everywhere.”

Arthur Abaliwano represents the type of founder shaping Africa’s next wave of industrial innovation: bold, practical, and deeply committed to solving problems that matter. Anchor Machines is not just a platform; it is a pathway to a more efficient, more connected, and more competitive mining and construction ecosystem across Africa.
