The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced, proactive, and trilingual consultant to serve as a Project Officer – Supplier Readiness in the Lumwana region. This critical on-site role is responsible for the successful execution of an SME capacity-building program, focusing on increasing the readiness, market access, and technical competence of local suppliers to major mines in the Lumwana region. The consultant will be the key operational link between BongoHive, the program’s client (the anchor mine), and the participating enterprises.

Key Responsibilities

1. On-site Project Management & Stakeholder Liaison

  • Serve as the primary on-site project officer and BongoHive representative for all Lumwana-based activities.
  • Represent BongoHive professionally in all in-person and virtual meetings with the client and local stakeholders (e.g., Chiefdoms, ZDA, CEEC).
  • Organise and manage all logistics for in-person activities, including training sessions, workshops, site visits, Pop-Up Markets, and B2B Expos.
  • Support with actively managing and nurturing stakeholder and partnership relationships on the ground to foster program buy-in and market opportunities for SMEs.

2. SME Mentorship & Business Development

  • Provide direct, hands-on business mentorship to participating SMEs with a focus on:
    • Financial Readiness: Guiding SMEs on the comprehensive path to access finance and capital investments and improving financial discipline.
    • Procurement Support: Actively assisting SMEs with tendering documentation, trade test processes, and preparation for supplier registration and tendering with major mines in the area.
    • Compliance: Mentoring businesses to embed realistic safety plans and environmental protocols in line with current mining sector standards.
  • Facilitate entrepreneurship sessions and coaching, including pain point resolution and improving product/service delivery.

3. Technical Readiness & Performance Reporting

  • Manage on-site technical support and training for SMEs on program-specific digital tools, including vendor portals and business assessment frameworks (e.g., eMiner, GrowthWheel).
  • Assist suppliers with creating and updating business profiles on client vendor portals.
  • Support BongoHive’s Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework by actively tracking and reporting against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as revenue growth, job creation, and new contracts secured.
  • Generate comprehensive on-site activity and progress reports for the BongoHive head office and the client.

Required Qualifications and Competencies

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in project coordination, business mentorship, or consulting, with a preference for experience in Business Development or SME integration within the mining or heavy industrial supply chain.
  • Stakeholder management and partnership development
  • Language Fluency: Must be proficient in English, Kaonde, and Bemba.
  • Location/Relocation: Must either already be based in or around the Lumwana Mine area (e.g., Solwezi, Kalumbila, or Lumwana town) OR be willing to relocate to the area immediately for the duration of the consultancy. Accommodation will be provided.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Economics, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Skills: Demonstrated ability to provide hands-on technical support for digital business platforms and possess excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and public speaking skills.

Terms

  • Duration of Contract: The active implementation period for this contract shall be Ten (10) Months.
  • Final Contract End Date: The final contract end date, accounting for the full 10-month implementation and final reporting/closeout, shall be 30th August 2026.
  • Primary Responsibility and Location: The Consultant is responsible for the management, operation, and administration of the Project Office at the Lumwana Community Trust (LCT), which serves as the physical hub for localised SME mentoring.
  • Working Hours: The consultant is expected to work a minimum of three days a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). The consultant must be flexible and prepared to work occasionally for the entire week (full-time) when project demands, such as intensive training workshops or critical deadlines, require it.

 

The Entrepreneurship Intern position is with BongoHive’s Entrepreneurship Unit. This is a Part-Time Internship located in Lusaka (Hybrid). The role reports directly to the Entrepreneurship Associates. The internship duration is 6 Months, requiring 3 days per week, working from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (27 hours per week).

This role involves assisting Entrepreneurship Associates with programme delivery, founder care, stakeholder engagement, and research-based tasks that contribute to the success of Zambia’s startup ecosystem.

  • Academic Status: Recent graduates or students in their final year of study*.
  • Recommended Degree/Field: Candidates should ideally be pursuing or have completed a degree in one of the following fields (or a closely related one):

Coordination & Programme Support

  • Support project management, including contributing to work plans, tracking deliverables, and coordinating activities across the Entrepreneurship Unit
  • Manage the application and communications processes for entrepreneurship programmes, ensuring founders and stakeholders receive timely and accurate updates.
  • Be present for weekly and monthly staff meetings, providing updates on learnings, achievements, lessons, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Provide facilitation and tech support during programme sessions, workshops, and events.
  • Assist with coordinating entrepreneurship programmes, events, and internal activities.
  • Shadow Entrepreneurship Associates to understand internal processes and support execution.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Assist with documentation, scheduling, file management, and general programme logistics.
  • Maintain organised records and support smooth administrative workflows.

Founder Care & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support communication with founders, mentors, and partners.
  • Coordinate check-ins, follow-ups, and maintain positive stakeholder relationships.

Research & Case Study Development

  • Conduct research to support programme improvements and founder needs.
  • Develop business case studies on Zambian companies (training provided).

Role Overview

You are not merely providing sales support; you are managing the machinery of growth. You will own the proposal pipeline, manage our intelligent lead assessment systems, and ensure that every opportunity moves from “Lead” to “Contract” with speed and precision. This position requires a highly organised, process-driven professional who excels at building systems, managing complex projects, and winning deals through discipline.

Key Responsibilities

Pipeline & Proposal Management (The Core Mandate)

  • End-to-End Proposal Execution: Serve as the primary project manager for all inbound and standard Requests for Proposals (RFPs). Ensure that every proposal is high-quality, compliant, and submitted on time.
  • Deal Team Coordination: Act as the central point of contact for internal “Deal Teams.” You will work directly with Delivery Units (Tech, Innovation, Entrepreneurship) to gather technical inputs and budget estimates, ensuring all contributors deliver on schedule.
  • Pipeline Velocity: Maintain the “pulse” of the sales pipeline. You are responsible for following up on stalled deals, scheduling client meetings, and ensuring no opportunity falls through the cracks.

Intelligent Lead Assessment

  • Inbound Lead Qualification: Oversee the daily operation of the “Intelligent Lead Assessment” tool. Act as the first human touchpoint for inquiries, filtering out unqualified leads and escalating high-potential opportunities to the Manager.
  • Channel & Ecosystem Partner Management: Proactively manage relationships with our network of channel partners, associations, and ecosystem collaborators to ensure they remain engaged and productive sources of leads.

Process, Data & Tooling

  • CRM Discipline: Serve as the guardian of the CRM (Single Source of Truth). Ensure all deal data is accurate, up-to-date, and ready for reporting.
  • Reporting & Analytics: Generate weekly “Pipeline Health” reports for the Bi-weekly Growth Sync, providing data-driven insights on conversion rates, win/loss reasons, and bottlenecks.
  • Systemic Social Proof: Implement an innovative process to capture Reference Letters, Case Studies, and Testimonials immediately upon project closure, building an arsenal of social proof.

Commercial Operations Support

  • QBR Preparation: Support the G&P Manager in preparing for Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with Key Strategic Partners. This includes gathering data, drafting “Value Realisation Reports,” and preparing presentation decks.
  • Event Activation: Ensure BongoHive maintains a presence as a “Key Player.” Manage the commercial follow-up from industry events, converting business cards into qualified leads.

Candidate Profile

  • Tech-Savvy: You are proficient with CRMs (HubSpot, Pipedrive, etc.), Project Management tools (Asana, Trello), Gen AI Tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.) and Google Workspace.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in Business Development, Grant Writing, Sales Operations, or Project Management.
  • Proven track record of managing complex proposals or projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience in the Tech, Innovation, or Development sector is a strong plus.
