UNDP Launches Timbuktoo MineTech Accelerator to Transform Africa’s Mining Sector

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with the Timbuktoo Africa Innovation Foundation and the National Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research (NISIR), has launched the Timbuktoo MineTech Accelerator Programme to drive innovation and empower youth-led start-ups in Africa’s mining sector.

Part of the Timbuktoo MineTech Hub, the programme aims to revolutionize mining through technology and sustainability. It offers selected start-ups $25,000 in equity-free funding, mentorship, and access to global networks, helping them develop tech solutions to address mining challenges.

Programme Highlights:

Funding & Support: Participants will receive $25,000, mentorship, and market opportunities to scale their businesses.
Applications: Open from January 9 to February 13, 2025, for start-ups focused on mining-related challenges such as waste management, drone applications, and sustainability.
Phases:
Bootcamp: A 4-week programme to help start-ups refine their solutions.
Acceleration: Post-bootcamp support to scale businesses.
MineTech Hub: A space for partnerships to drive sustainable mining.
Post-Grant Support: Continued guidance for long-term impact.
Empowering Youth & Inclusion: The programme encourages applications from women, persons with disabilities, and marginalized groups, aiming to foster socio-economic growth through innovative mining technologies.
