About BongoHive Group
Since 2011, the BongoHive Group has been at the vanguard of Zambia’s technology and entrepreneurial revolution, evolving into a pivotal force across Africa. We are an integrated ecosystem of distinct yet connected pillars: our entrepreneurship and innovation programmes, BongoHive Consult (our strategic advisory, digital and AI arm), The Hive Coworking (our community and workspace) and BongoHive Ventures (our growth fund for tech-enabled entrepreneurs).
Our mission is to co-create sustainable solutions by leveraging innovation, entrepreneurship and technology to unlock Africa’s economic potential. We are a lean team that uses AI across our work to do more, better, with less.
Purpose of the role
The Digital Marketing Associate is the creative, hands-on engine of the Marketing and Communications team. You will create, publish and grow BongoHive’s content and digital platforms every day, increasing the Group’s reach, reputation and business in Zambia and internationally.
You are creative to the core and AI-first in how you work. You use AI tools to research, draft, edit, design, caption and repurpose content, so one person can run BongoHive’s platforms at the volume and quality of a much larger team. You direct and review the work of interns and external specialists for demanding or larger productions, while personally owning brand voice and the final quality of everything we publish.
You will also help turn our platforms into income, by delivering sponsored content and digital services for paying clients alongside the Marketing & Communications Lead.
Key responsibilities
AI-first ways of working
- Use AI as the default starting point for content work, including ideas, drafts, scripts, edits, subtitles, translation, resizing and repurposing.
- Build and maintain the team’s prompt library, templates and AI workflows, and keep them up to date as tools improve.
- Review every AI-assisted output for accuracy, tone, cultural context and brand fit before publishing; stay accountable for what goes out.
- Recommend which AI tools the team should adopt and retire, within the agreed budget.
Content creation (hands-on)
- Come up with, create and publish content every day across formats: short-form video, reels, carousels, graphics, posts, blogs, newsletters and audio clips.
- Shoot and edit short-form video and audio, and design social graphics, using a phone, Canva or Adobe tools and AI editing tools, in line with BongoHive’s brand.
- Capture content at programmes and events: live posting, short interviews, founder stories and testimonials.
- Research, write and edit SEO- and AEO-friendly content for the website, blog and partner platforms on technology, innovation and entrepreneurship.
- Write scripts, captions and creative briefs for videos, podcasts and campaigns.
Platform management
- Own the day-to-day running of all BongoHive digital platforms, including LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, YouTube, WhatsApp channels and communities, the website, the newsletter and podcast channels.
- Plan and manage the content calendar, publish on schedule, and respond promptly to comments and messages to build an active community.
- Grow audiences and engagement on every platform; spot trends early and respond quickly with relevant content.
- Manage the WordPress website: content updates, landing pages for programmes and events, and on-page SEO and AEO/GEO so BongoHive is found in search and AI assistants.
- Run email marketing and newsletters in HubSpot: list segmentation, automation, drafting, scheduling and performance analysis.
- Plan, run and optimise paid digital campaigns for programmes, events and services.
Delegation and production partners
- Delegate demanding or time-consuming work, such as long-form video, photography, event coverage and design-heavy campaigns, to interns (where available) and external consultants.
- Write clear creative briefs, set deadlines, give feedback and approve final work before it is published.
- Guide and support interns so they produce work to brand standards and develop their skills.
- Keep these activities with the Associate: brand voice, final approval before publishing, community responses and quality assurance on sponsor and client deliverables.
- Keep outsourced work on time and within budget, and keep a shortlist of reliable freelancers and consultants.
- Maintain an organised library of brand assets, templates, photos and video so the team, interns and partners can find and reuse them.
Commercial support
- Produce and publish sponsored content, newsletter and podcast sponsor placements and partner campaigns to agreed standards, always clearly labelled as sponsored.
- Create content and manage digital platforms for external clients as part of the team’s paid services.
- Support the production and publishing of revenue-generating content such as podcasts, video series and webinars.
- Prepare audience and performance data for media kits, sponsor reports and client reports.
Analytics and reporting
- Track performance across all channels using Google Analytics, HubSpot and platform insights, and share a short weekly report with insights and recommendations.
- Test formats, posting times, headlines and ads, and use the results to improve what we publish.
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Media or a related field, or equivalent proven experience.
- At least 2–3 years of hands-on experience in digital marketing, content creation or social media management.
- A portfolio of content you personally created, such as videos, graphics, written pieces and campaigns, with results where available. This is required.
Required skills
- A strong creative eye and storytelling ability, with exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills.
- Hands-on ability to shoot and edit short-form video, create graphics, take good photos and edit basic audio.
- Deep understanding of how each social platform works, including its formats, algorithms and audiences.
- Proven use of AI tools to produce high volumes of quality content (for example Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Canva AI and AI video editors), with examples of workflows you have built.
- Ability to write clear creative briefs and to direct, review and give constructive feedback on others’ work.
- Experience with WordPress, SEO, Google Analytics, Search Console and social media management tools.
- Experience with HubSpot or another email marketing platform, and with running paid social campaigns.
- Excellent organisation and time management, with the ability to handle many priorities and meet deadlines.
Nice to have
- Experience producing or publishing a podcast or video series.
- Experience with Google Ads and search engine marketing.
- Experience supervising interns or managing freelancers.
- Ability to create content in one or more Zambian languages.
- Interest in or experience with sectors BongoHive works in, such as fintech, agritech, healthtech, e-commerce and AI.
Attributes
- Creative to the core, always generating ideas and turning them into content quickly.
- Curious and quick to learn new tools and platforms.
- A self-starter who takes ownership of the platforms and their results.
- Comfortable on camera and engaging people at events.
- Strong attention to detail and calm under pressure.
- A team player who works well with colleagues, interns, partners and clients.
Other
- Occasional out-of-hours work and travel to cover events and programmes is expected.
