Faith in Action: Duniya Healthcare Partners with Catholic Church and AHETI to Save 578 Lives Through Rural Health Innovation

BongoHive alumni startup Duniya Healthcare is transforming access to essential medicines in Zambia’s rural communities through a groundbreaking partnership with the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) and AHETI.

According to their latest impact report — Access Matters: Measuring the Impact of Strengthened Medicine Supply Chain in Rural Zambia — Duniya’s Rural Distribution Model (RDM) helped avert 578 deaths across eight mission health facilities between January and June 2025. The initiative improved medicine availability to 88% (up from 71% in control sites) and reduced patient turnaways from 67% to 38%.

“The preferential option for the poor is our sacred mandate,” said Bishop Evans Chinyemba, OMI, who oversees health for ZCCB. “Through this partnership with Duniya Healthcare and AHETI, we are putting our faith into action — ensuring that even those in the furthest villages receive the medicines they need to live.”

Mwansa Chalo, CEO of Duniya Healthcare, emphasized that the lives saved “represent mothers, children, and families who now have a second chance — proving that when supply chains work, health systems work.”

This collaboration showcases how technology and faith-driven innovation can strengthen healthcare systems and bring life-saving impact to underserved communities.
