Empowering Water Sector PR with AI: BongoHive Consult Hosts Workshop with NWASCO

On April 16, 2025, BongoHive Consult partnered with the National Water Supply and Sanitation Council (NWASCO) to host a forward-looking workshop titled “AI for Public Relations in Water & Sanitation: Tools, Ethics & Crisis Response.” Held at Southern Sun Hotel in Lusaka, the session brought together communications professionals from water utilities across Zambia to explore how artificial intelligence and automation can transform public engagement and service delivery.

Embracing Innovation in Public Communication

The workshop opened with keynote remarks from NWASCO Director, Eng. Kelvin Chitumbo, who encouraged the adoption of digital tools to enhance transparency, inclusivity, and impact.

“Artificial Intelligence and automation are rapidly transforming how we operate. Let us use these technologies not to replace the human touch, but to enhance it,” said Eng. Chitumbo.

Led by Executive Director Lukonga Lindunda, Marketing & Communications Lead Tilyenji Mwanza Mundungani, and Data & AI Associate Muyanje Likumba, with remote support from Data & AI Lead Mapalo Lukashi, the BongoHive Consult team guided participants through a practical, hands-on learning experience. The workshop covered:

  • Prompt Engineering with ChatGPT for communication strategy and crisis messaging

  • Visual Content Creation using Canva AI for scalable digital storytelling

  • Social Media Automation with Hootsuite and Meta Business Suite

  • Social Listening Tools like Social Searcher for real-time sentiment and risk monitoring

  • AI for Data Storytelling with tools like Gemini and ChatGPT-Omni
